Environmental Justice

Since 1995, MUNDELL has been a coordinating member of the Indianaolis Urban League Environmental Coalition (IULEC), a multi-disciplinary group whose vision is to support Indianapolis in providing a healthy environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of all of its citizens. MUNDELL provided support to IULEC for two area environmental justice conferences during 1997. From 1999 to 2001, MUNDELL was selected by IULEC as its project manager on an environnmetal justice project funded by the U.S. EPA's small grants program. The studhy developed an environmental resource center database for air emissions data in Marion County and provided educational workshops fpr the local urban community on air quality issues.

In July 1996, MUNDELL personnel provided event coordination for the conference at the Indiana Black Expo entitled "Together One Voice; Environmental Justice and Brownfields Redevelopment". This event was sponsored by the non-governmental organization New Humanity under a grant by the U.S. Catholic Conference (USCC). This event was selected as a Model Environmental Justice Project by the Inter-religious Partnership for the Environment (a Christian-Jewish environmental coalition) to present to the United States Congress and Vice President Al Gore in early 1997. MUNDELL has also acted as a technical consultant to the USCC on issues of environmental justice helping to draft its position paper on Brownfield Redevelopent in 1997 to send to the U.S. Congress.
