MUNDELL & ASSOCIATES, INC. was founded in 1995 to provide professional earth and environmental consulting services to industry, municipalities, governmental agencies, engineering firms and the legal community. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, MUNDELL employees have acted as project engineers, scientists, program directors, senior technical consultants, and expert witnesses on environmental and water resources projects throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Europe and Asia. Covering the full range of services including Superfund and RCRA investigations and remediations, risk-based corrective action for impacted sites, brownfield sites, water resource studies, wellhead delineations, and environmental management programs, MUNDELL personnel have conducted assessments of agricultural, commercial and industrial sites in diverse geologic and regulatory settings. MUNDELL & ASSOCIATES, INC. personnel have been involved in the performance and review of environmental site assessments throughout the USA since the early 1980's. With expertise in the development of appropriate site assessment protocols and procedures including soil and groundwater sampling strategies, MUNDELL personnel have successfully completed numerous assessments. These assessments have been conducted on a wide range of property types (commercial, industrial, agricultural) under varying geologic and regulatory conditions. MUNDELL personnel were involved in providing input into the ASTM Phase I environmental site assessment standards, and have been active at both the state and national level in establishing appropriate remediation cleanup levels using risk-based corrective action strategies

Services Our quantitative approach to site characterization through the use of geophysical analysis, pilot testing to determine vadose zone and aquifer hydraulic characteristics, and geochemical evaluation to determine chemical transport behavior, allows more effective remedial system designs for achieving sign cleanup. With a range of engineering disciplines, we have the education and experience to design systems that work despite the uncertainties inherent in subsurface conditions.

Occasionally, projects involving environmental investigation, remediation or waste management develop complications. These complications may take the form of regulatory agency enforcement actions, litigation or the complexity of the project exceeding the capabilities of the existing consulting. MUNDELL & ASSOCIATES, INC. has developed a reputation for stepping into "troubled" projects and working with the regulatory agencies, involved private parties, attorneys and other consultants to bring these troubled projects back under control. MUNDELL's involvement in difficult sites has in many cases allowed the agencies to hold off pursuing an enforcement course of action.


MUNDELL & ASSOCIATES, INC. personnel have been involved in the performance of water resource evaluations and wellhead delineation studies since the 1980's. With expertise in the evaluation of geologic, hydrogeologic, and hydrologic data to address water resource capacity, MUNDELL personnel have conducted studies on water availability, wellfield planning, and water quality assessment throughout the Midwest.strategies.

Since 1985, MUNDELL & ASSOCIATES, INC. personnel have provided litigation support services in the areas of environmental assessment, remediation and waste containment involving industrial facilities, Superfund sites and leaking underground storage tanks. MUNDELL has provided litigation support and expert testimony in over 30 cases on issues of:


• Release characteristic evaluation - sudden and   accidental/unexpected and unintended.

• Pollutant evaluation - toxicity, mobility and   persistence in the

environment.


• Historical state-of-knowledge of environmental   pollution, regulation and practice.


• Evaluation of release rates and environmental   damage relative to time periods of interest.


• Assessment of environmental investigation and   remediation costs.


• Source damage contribution   to overall environmental costs and cost allocation.


• documents review for support of   litigation strategy development.


These activities have required significant experience and expertise in the areas of contaminant and waste chemistry, geology and hydrogeology, groundwater and contaminant transport modeling, environmental compliance, environmental industrial practices, economic evaluation of soil and groundwater remediation alternatives, and National Contingency Plan compliance. As required, MUNDELL personnel have been called to serve as expert witnesses related to a number of insurance coverage environmental issues. Using our scientific and engineering experience, our approach includes an objective assessment of the protocols and methodologies used to generate site information, and an unbiased evaluation of case facts and issues supplemented with appropriate analysis and data acquisition, as needed.
